EducationI am entering the fourth year of my degree course in Classical Civilisation and English Literature at Trinity College, Dublin. I also have experience with teaching the English language to both children and adults and would welcome any queries relating to English lessons.
ExperienceFor the past 3 years I have been involved with the Voluntary Tuition Program in the college acting in the role of tutor, supervisor and treasurer of the society that aims to educate local primary and secondary school children in a variety of areas. I have also taught English to children in India for 2 months to non-English speaking children.
HobbiesI am interested in sports - usually watching, unfortunately - mainly ones that include a ball of some kind. In my first two years in college I played 5-a-side football with friends which I found particularly refreshing as mental exhaustion coupled with physical exhaustion equals a good rest. I have a passion for my chosen subjects in college - Classics and English - with high II-I to first class honors grades consistently. I have an interest in the Classics for many years and studying them in college has opened up many new avenues of exploration in this area which I was not aware of at the outset. Likewise with English; English is a study of people, history, society, politics, and any other area of human life one cares to include, and good literature can open up a whole new world of experiences for the interested reader. Both subjects are intertwined as the Classics have borrowed heavily form modern literary criticism in its pursuit of a more fulfilling interpretation of history beyond the great men and battles that predominated in previous generations. I enjoy visiting places on the weekend with friends and family that I have not been to before for the invigoration one feels from the unfamiliar. I also have an interest in current affairs. To witness the march of history as told through the lives of the people involved and in the context of the broader socio-political-historical forces that shape, and are influenced by, the lives of people today is fascinating.
